Designing your solar system

Choosing the right set-up for your home or business

When it comes to choosing solar energy for your home, the options can be overwhelming. There are dozens of brands, each one claiming to be the best and offering an array of panels and hardware, all described in baffling tech terms.

Fortunately, we know our inverters from our junction boxes. We’ll help you choose the right solar set-up for your family or business and make sure your clean-energy investment pays off.

What to consider

Designing the right system for your place will depend on factors such as roof layout, potential savings, and how much energy independence you want. Of course, you’ll also want your solar panels to look good. When designing your solar system, we consider:

How much electricity you use, so we can provide the right size set-up for your household’s needs.

Where to put the solar panels. A north facing roof with a 15° to 45° pitch and minimal shade provides the best environment for solar, but east and west facing roofs can work too. If your roof space is tight, you could opt for fewer but higher wattage panels.

Whether you’re home during the day. Unless you can use most or all the power your solar panels are generating during daylight hours, we advise battery storage so you can use the stored power after dark.

To keep your solar set-up functioning at maximum efficiency, you should regularly clean leaves and other debris off the panels and have them checked by a registered electrician every three years. We’ll remind you when your system is due for a check-up as part of our after-sales service.
